Homage to the Venerable master Miao Sheng from Pu Hua Temple! Homage to Rigdzin Gawa Rinpoche! Thanks to the disciples at Pu Hua Temple and the disciples of Nyingma Urgyen Mahayana Blissful Dharma Continent, for the attending to this Puja.

It has been seven years since our last gathering. Thanks to the Great Venerable and Rinpoche, we have acquired the fortunate conditions again to hold this Dharma gathering at Pu Hua Temple in Wutai Mountain. We are going to host 100 thousand light and water offering to Manjusri Bodhisattva and pray for growing merits and wisdom for all sentient beings toward their ultimate liberation, for the peace and prosperity of our land, and moreover for the long and vast spread of Dharma.

Next let’s appraise the teaching from the Great Venerable and Rinpoche with respect to this puja.

The teaching from Rigdzin Gawa Rinpoche:

Seven years ago I offered 100 thousand lights here. With the blessing from our lineage masters, Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, in such an auspicious day today, all of us gather here again to make offerings to Manjusri Bodhisattva and our lineage masters. It is a great field of merits for all attendants. I would like to give special thanks to the Great Venerable Miao Sheng for his support which enabled this fortunate opportunity to take place.

Let’s pray to Manjusri Bodhisattva and our lineage masters for the blessing to all Dharma practitioners. May the ignorance and affliction disappear and the wisdom arise, as the merits generating from the light offering. We are going to dedicate our practices to all sentient beings to purify their obstructions. We should also make great aspirations in this occasion to benefit others and follow stringently the practice of Dharma. It is a most auspicious moment and place, therefore all of you will be enriched and empowered by praying.  It is of our great merits to attend this puja. Let’s host the puja and the offering with the Bodhicitta, which means it is for the merits of all sentient beings and for their great attainment. By practicing in this way, we will acquire more virtue.

I wish all participants a great fulfillment of all their dreams. Tashi-Delek.

Next, let’s welcome Great Venerable Miao Sheng from Pu Hua Temple for his teaching and blessing. Afterwards we will start the light offering sutra recitation.

The teaching from Great Venerable Miao Sheng:

Namo Shakyamuni Buddha,

Namo Manjusri Bodhisattva!

It was the sacred birthday of Shakyamuni Buddha yesterday, April 8th in lunar calendar. Our Rinpoche came back with his many disciples, returned to where Manjusri Bodhisattva is. Pu Hua Temple has been hosting the seventh 7-day Great Puja since April 4th, the sacred birthday of Manjusri Bodhisattva. This Puja has a long history in Han Buddism, which originated from the Northern and Southern Dynasties (more than 1400 years ago)in Jin Shan Jiang Tian Chan Temple, Jiangsu. We have invited Master Tian You to join us, who has lived in Jin Shan for more than 20 years.  We have known each other since 1985. That was the first year he went to Jin Shan.  It is the sixth day of the Great Puja today. And yesterday Rinpoche has arrived in Wu Tai Mountain, which is such an auspicious condition that allows the two Pujas to be hosted together. The 100-thousand light and water offering is to prostrate before all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and before Manjusri Bodhisattva. Manjusri Bodhisattva leads enormous buddhas to enlightenment in all the past, present and future, hence Manjusri Bodhisattva is identified as the teacher of all Buddhas and bodhisattvas. Likewise, in Vajrayana Buddhism Manjusri Bodhisattva is considered as the oldest fully enlightened buddha.

On behalf of all the practitioners attending this puja in Pu Hua Temple, I welcome Rinpoche and the combination of the Great Puja and the light and water offering. Let’s pray for the peace and harmony of the world, for the good deeds of human beings and the happiness of families, for purification of obstacles for all sentient beings. As quoted in Mahayana Buddhism, negative karma is like frost that melts under the sunshine of wisdom. Our light offering represents the true wisdom that illuminate the world, the planet and human beings.  It resolves our affliction and ignorance, and prepares us for the great attainment. Amitabha.

I wish all Dharma brothers and sisters a lot of health and happiness. May the bodhisattva arise within you and may you achieve the perfect enlightenment.
